Saints Foundation Charity Matchday raises over £30k

Thanks to the support of Southampton FC, its fans, and Main Club Sponsor Sportsbet.io, Saints Foundation’s Charity Matchday has raised a phenomenal £30,018 to support the club charity’s work.

Saints’ game against Fulham on Saturday 13 May saw a wide range of fundraising take place at St Mary’s and across the city, including a charity prize draw, bucket collections, raffles and auctions in club hospitality, and a 50p donation on every matchday programme sold.

All in aid of the club’s charity Saints Foundation, the total at the end of the matchday stood at £20,018 – with further funds still to be come from the auction of the players’ match-worn shirts, which are now listed on Saints Foundation’s eBay page.

In addition to giving up their front of shirt spot to Saints Foundation for the game, Sportsbet.io, part of Yolo Group, have generously matched the first £10,000 of donations, placing the current total at £30,018.

Other activities to spotlight Saints Foundation at the Fulham game included participants from their 15 projects getting involved in the match build-up with on-pitch flag bearing, a special guard of honour for the Saints as they took to the pitch, and half-time relay featuring young people from local schools supported by the charity’s Premier League Primary Stars project.

Greg Baker, CEO of Saints Foundation, said: “We know last Saturday was an incredibly tough day for all fans of our club. Despite the circumstances, we’re so grateful to everyone who came out in full force to show their support for Saints Foundation.

“This money is vital to sustaining and developing our support for Southampton. This year we put mental wellbeing under the spotlight, sharing stories of how three very different people have all boosted their mental wellbeing when engaging with Foundation projects.

“To announce this incredible £30,018 total in Mental Health Awareness Month feels especially fitting and we’re hugely grateful to our city for rallying behind us.”

The £30,000 raised by our Charity Matchday will support across the wide range of Saints Foundation projects, including their new men’s mental health programme, Saints By Your Side. The charity’s first ever project focused specifically on supporting mental health launched late last year, and is already giving local men a safe space to talk and learn ways to better manage their wellbeing.
